Marvel vs. DC: Part 1
Who Will Surpass Whom in 2025? Marvel vs. DC
The question on everyone's mind: Will Marvel or DC dominate in 2025?
Marvel has been on top since The Dark Knight Rises in 2012. However, 2025 could offer DC a chance to reclaim relevance with Superman and Peacemaker leading their slate. While Marvel's next big phases, including Spider-Man and the Avengers, are set for 2026, DC has an opening this year. Let’s break it down.
Peacemaker Season 2
Peacemaker had a strong debut in Season 1, which started with moderate reviews but grew in acclaim over time. It became a critical and fan favorite, proving that James Gunn's unique style resonates. With Gunn confirming that the show is canon, fans are hyped for its continuation. Following the success of The Penguin, Peacemaker could keep the momentum alive for DC series on streaming platforms.
Superman: Legacy
The big one for DC this year is Superman: Legacy. Its trailer broke records, amassing over 250 million views in just one day, despite limited marketing compared to major Marvel projects like Deadpool 3. Directed by James Gunn, who has a stellar track record with Marvel (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad), Superman: Legacy has a chance to stand out.
Unlike recent darker superhero narratives like The Boys or The Penguin, Superman offers a refreshing take with an optimistic tone. It doesn’t need to chase billion-dollar box office figures—what matters is delivering a compelling experience for fans and casual viewers alike. Gunn’s focus should be on storytelling, not replicating the financial heights of Marvel’s best.
Marvel in 2025: A Slow Year?
Marvel's heavy hitters like Spider-Man: Friendly Neighborhood and Captain America: Brave New World are set for 2026. This leaves 2025 relatively sparse for Marvel content. Here’s a snapshot:
1. Thunderbolts (May 2025): While it’s exciting to see this team-up, it doesn’t have the same anticipation as Guardians of the Galaxy. It's not gonna be a problem for superman.
2. Ironheart (June 2025): Riri Williams has yet to make a significant impact on audiences. Her series might feel like filler in Anime until Marvel introduces a new Iron Man.
3. Fantastic Four (July 2025): Directed by the mind behind WandaVision which was a fantastic series if i might add, this is Marvel’s biggest hope for the year, and Superman's biggest contender. If done right, it could revive the Fantastic Four brand after years of subpar adaptations. However, its impact might still pale compared to Superman.
Captain America and Daredevil
Captain America: Brave New World releases in February 2026, but Anthony Mackie’s portrayal of Sam Wilson doesn’t yet carry the same gravitas as Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers. Fans might be eagerly awaiting Evans’ rumored return in Doomsday, which might overshadow Wilson’s journey.
As for Daredevil: Born Again, it’s set to release in two parts over the course of 2026. This release strategy could be risky? While X-Men 97 proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that nostalgia and stellar writing can create a peak series—arguably the best of 2024 across genres, not just animation—it’s worth noting how quickly conversation about it faded once its initial run ended. When the gap between installments is too long, even for high-quality shows, momentum can dwindle.
Daredevil faces a similar challenge. If fans wait months between the first and second halves, the buzz and excitement may fizzle out, making it harder for the series to maintain the same level of engagement. A full, cohesive release might have been a better strategy, as Marvel risks diminishing the impact of what could otherwise be a standout project. However, this is Netflix we're talking about—a platform renowned for producing quality series and executing excellent marketing strategies. They know how to keep their audience engaged, even with staggered releases.
Marvel’s other projects, like Wonder Man and Marvel Zombies, might not generate enough buzz. Wonder Man is basically a She—Hulk 2.0—random existence. DC has a real shot to shine if Superman: Legacy delivers.
DC's Potential for 2025
If Superman succeeds, it could create a ripple effect for other DC projects. Series like Supergirl, Penguin 2, The Batman 2, Creature Commandos 2 and Lanterns could benefit from Superman’s success, building further momentum for DC.
Marvel would need a major announcement—like the arrival of a star-studded figure such as Cristiano Ronaldo or Tom Cruise joining the MCU—to keep the momentum on their side through 2026. Otherwise, 2025 looks like DC’s best chance to reclaim the spotlight.
Conclusion
While 2025 presents a crucial opportunity for DC to dominate the spotlight, Marvel's next move could be a game-changer. Whether it's the success of the Fantastic Four or the addition of a major celebrity like Cristiano Ronaldo or Tom Cruise to the MCU, Marvel needs a bold step to maintain its dominance in the coming years. The stage is set, and it will be fascinating to see how both studios respond. Cheers.

ReplyDeleteNever judge a book by its cover.. while the whole of DCU is depending on superman for their solid foundation..
ReplyDeleteMarvel already has a solid foundation... So attention should be on DCU ... Cause if they fail it's over while for marvel it doesn't really change a shade.
Hmmm
ReplyDeleteBut, that's very much a fair assessment
Very fair
